How-to guide
How to extract audio from an Instagram Reel
Reels downloaded from Instagram save as MP4 files with AAC audio. VideoSplit reads those directly and gives you the audio without piping them through a sketchy online converter that dumps your file on someone else's hard drive.
Instagram does not offer native downloads on most Reels. Using a third-party saver has Terms of Service implications — stick to your own content, or content you have permission to reuse.
Step-by-step
- Save the Reel to your device. For your own content, use Instagram's Save to camera roll. For others', use an approved repost tool with proper permissions.
- Open VideoSplit.io. Any modern browser, mobile or desktop.
- Drop the saved MP4 onto the page. Drag and drop or use the upload button.
- Pick WAV or MP3. Reels are short — either format produces a file under 2 MB for a typical 30-second clip.
- Download the extracted audio. Saves with the Reel's filename.
Tips for better results
- Reels with licensed music get their audio from Instagram's music library; using that audio commercially requires separate licensing.
- For personal archives of your own Reels, MP3 at 320 kbps is both small and lossless-enough to re-upload anywhere.
- Voice-over Reels with background music will keep both layers — VideoSplit does not separate vocals from music (that is VocalSplit's job).
